SOGRAPE WINE
Sogrape Vinhos is a family company with a strong international vocation, focused on the production of quality wines, innovation, and the development of Portuguese brands, from more than 830 hectares of vineyards held in Portugal.
Sogrape Vinhos was born out of the will and boldness of a group of friends who, in the difficult economic and political environment of 1942, decided to rely heavily on the talent of a visionary man to create and develop a different, innovative wine company capable of promoting and imposing Portuguese wines in international markets.
It was Fernando van Zeller Guedes's vision, character, and personality that charted the winning course for a project that many at first considered doomed to failure. The ability to see first and see further evidenced by the founder of Sogrape resulted in the creation of the first global Portuguese wine brand - Mateus Rosé -, whose resounding commercial success in over 120 countries served as a decisive impetus for growth and leadership affirmation. which the Company rightly complains today.
Openness to innovation and the ambition to do differently - together with respect for tradition and the values of ethics and responsibility - have marked the genesis of an organization that has been able to preserve the founder's vision and adapt it to the inevitable change of times.
Led today by the third generation of the founding family, Sogrape Vinhos fulfills, more and more faithfully, the objective assumed from the outset: to make known to the world the quality Portuguese wines, with a strong bet on volume brands that can satisfy the needs of different market segments.
From the pioneer days of buying wine casks from small Douro producers to be treated and bottled in a rented winery in Vila Real, Sogrape has managed to grow, sustained, with a permanent investment in enhancing its heritage and human capital, holding today more than 830 hectares of vineyard area in the main Portuguese wine regions.
The true dimension of Sogrape today is eloquently expressed in the breadth and weight of its portfolio, where the two major Portuguese wine brands in the world - Mateus Rosé and Sandeman - stand out, in addition to the prestigious Wines. do Porto Ferreira and Offley, joined by renowned specialist brands representing the main denominations of origin - starting with the most celebrated Portuguese wine, Barca Velha, proud of Casa Ferreirinha (Douro), and continuing on the elegant nectars of Quinta Dois Carvalhais (Dão), in the vibrant Herdade do Peso (Alentejo), in the fresh Quinta de Azevedo and Gazela green wines, in the multi-regional Grão Vasco, just to name the most renowned.
To tell the story of Sogrape is, above all, to revisit the development path of a project designed by a visionary man and that his successors knew how to proceed with rigor and competence, in full respect for inherited values. It is to emphasize, after all, the achievements of a vast team that does not hide pride in the work done or the ambition to continue to do more and better.
